The Mountain View Unit was founded in 1999 for the East San Diego County. Most of our members live in the east county; Lakeside, Santee and Alpine. When we founded this unit we were looking for a way to help the children of our area and San Diego County. Most of us had been very involved with our children's lives through school and sports activities and as our children were reaching college age we were all looking for an outlet for the energy we had been devoting to those activities. When some of our circle were approached to start a unit for Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary we jumped at the chance. We formed our unit in October of 1999 just in time to participate in Kid's News Day. Since then we have participated every year and enlisted the help of the Lakeside and Santee Firefighters and the Lakeside School District and PTA council.
Our fundraising event for the hospital is our now famous, Boot Scootin' Bunco Party, which takes place every Spring. In the past we have raised funds for the NICU, Child Life Services, Oncology, Asthma Department and the Down Syndrome Center. We have a wonderful dinner, silent auction, raffle and a loud, crazy bunco game with over 100 participants.
